Ex Great Britain International, Steve McCurrie, appointed Andrew Farrell as defensive and wrestling coach for his young England students team during their Home Nations tournament in Edinburgh in 2002. Having played professionally at the highest level Steve knew that Andrews unique skills and training techniques would be of benefit to his squad in the competition. The appointment paid dividends and The England Students were eventually crowned deserved winners.
Following the merger of the Huddersfield Giants and Sheffield Eagles it became apparent that both sets of players had different tactics and philosophies on defensive techniques due to the different coaching environments they had worked under. Andrew Farrell was brought in unify the squad and ensure the team had a coordinated approach to tackling and opponent control.
Ex Great Britain tourist Mark Aston, current CEO and head coach of the Eagles, had this to say about Farrell Training's impact on his squad:
